At Heron park we take great pride in our PE and after-school club program. Our partnership with Sportitude is currently in its 6th year and in that time the children’s enjoyment, application and achievements in Sport have gone from strength to strength. The Academy, prior to Covid, was a regular recipient of the School Games Awards- racking up three consecutive Golds in recent years. Our last two Ofsted reports have highlighted the high quality of our sporting provisions.

Further to this, our efforts to provide outstanding PE lessons, coach-led teacher training, and to support the after-school club program has led to the Academy producing a conveyer-belt of successful teams. Our trophy cabinet bares testament to this and with Covid restrictions lifting, we hope to return to this level of success.

The Academy achieves all the above by spending its PE premium on professional, experienced sports coaches, equipment, and covering the costs of entering multiple inter-school competitions- such as transport and kit.

All children receive 2 high quality PE lessons per week, for the majority of the year, with one of those being a coach-led session where the class teacher learns by observation / Team teaching and is supported to make accurate assessments of the children.

Term 2 - 6 weeks Ball Skills / Invasion Games

Term 3 - 6 weeks Dance

Term 4 - 6 weeks Gymnastics

Term 5 - 6 weeks Athletics

Term 6 - 7 weeks Striking and Fielding Games / Over the Net Games

We provide sports/dance after-school clubs that are available to all children Y1-6. These range from Dance to Nerf Games, Football to Gymnastics. The range of activities offered means there is something for everyone throughout the year.
