Letters to Parents

9th February 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the last year we have given a great deal of thought to the way we communicate with parents and the local community as a whole.

We love to hear from you and to keep you informed about your child’s activities at Heron Park. There are many ways in which information can be shared between us:

  • Letters home; these can be found in your child’s book bag at the end of the day, and sometimes require a written reply from you by a certain date
  • Flyers; these advertise forthcoming events at school and will also be sent home with your child
  • Text messages; we will use this to relay important information – please ensure that we have your up to date mobile number
  • Facebook; we update our page regularly and love sharing pictures of day to day school life with you. Mr Ali shares his weekly message on our Facebook page every Friday https://www.facebook.com/HeronParkPrimaryAcademy/?fref=ts
  • Twitter; regular snippets of information can be found on our twitter page https://twitter.com/HeronParkPA
  • Our website http://heronparkprimaryacademy.org/ contains everything you need to know about our school, and is regularly updated with information, including our school calendar
  • You are always welcome to pop into the office between 8am and 4pm to discuss something – for more involved conversations, it may be a good idea to make an appointment to see the relevant member of staff
  • If your child attends Tea Time Club, you can reach the staff on 07572164175 between 4 and 5 pm if you need to speak to someone
  • Teachers are usually available to see you at the end of the school day, or you can make an appointment to see them at a time which suits you both
  • Please phone us on 01323 502525 to let us know if your child is absent or if they are going to be picked up from school by someone we are not expecting
  • If your child is going to be late to school, please let us know first thing in the morning – all school dinner bookings need to be made by 9.30 at the latest, otherwise please send your child in with a packed lunch
  • Please email us at heronparkoffice@auroraacademies.org – someone will be in touch as soon as possible
  • Look out for information about parents evenings, where you are invited to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher.
  • Please drop in to school on any Monday between 4 and 6pm to speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team regarding any aspect of your child’s school life
  • We love to welcome parents in to read with their children every Friday morning between
  • 8.40 and 9am – you don’t need an appointment, just come to your child’s classroom
  • Please use the Parent View page on the Ofsted website https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/ to let us know what you like about our school, or what you think would make a positive difference to the way we do things at Heron Park
  • We sometimes share pictures of events at school through the local newspaper so the wider community hears about all the great things we do at Heron Park
  • Our PFA is always happy to hear from you and welcome new members – join their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/373546619468718/?fref=ts or drop a letter in to the office addressed to them
  • Finally, if you need to contact the school Governors, hand a letter addressed to them in at the school office. They will reply as soon as possible

We look forward to hearing from you – do keep an eye out for all our news and information too!

Yours sincerely

PROPOSAL TO EXTEND AGE RANGE OF HERON PARK PRIMARY ACADEMY TO INCLUDE TWO YEAR OLDS.

As you may know, some two year olds are now entitled to 15 hours of free early education. We are delighted to be able to accept two year olds into our nursery class. Following a change in legislation earlier this year, pupils in the nursery are now classed as pupils of the academy.

The academy currently has an age range of 3-11 and we would like to extend this to 2-11 to formally include our 2 year old pupils.

This will have no effect on the school, the nursery class or the pupils but is simply an administrative change to our funding agreement.

If you would like to comment on these proposals or have any questions please contact me via the school office.

Yours faithfully,

Raja Ali

Head of School

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some of our parents and children have been exposed to inappropriate conduct near and within school premises from a small minority of parents.  This is unacceptable and needs to stop with immediate effect.

It is very distressing for children and adults when there is threatening behaviour, bad language, smoking and inappropriate comments being made by adults, and this does not set a very good example for the children and sends out a very negative image of the school, parents and children, which is very unfair and also inaccurate.

We all have a responsibility to make sure that every child that attends the academy feels secure, happy and positive, and that all of our parents feel safe and comfortable about coming to, and sending their children to Heron Park Primary Academy.

I would like to thank all our parents who continue to support the school in such a positive way, and be excellent roles models for our children.   We continue to have visitors to the academy who talk positively about the attitude to learning and behaviour of our children, and are impressed by how confident and polite they all are.  We need to work together to make sure that we reinforce a positive attitude in everything that they do, including their tasks, any challenges they may face and their interactions with others, and they need to see this within and outside the school and community.

If you experience or observe any incidents that are inappropriate, please contact the school and / or police as required and we will take action, and cooperate with the police if necessary by giving them access to our CCTV system.

Thank you all for helping us make Heron Park Primary Academy a safer place for our children on our journey to being an ‘Outstanding’ school.

Yours faithfully,

Raja Ali                                                            Mr John Greenwood

Head of School                                               Executive Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you know, we make sure that we are able to offer your child’s school uniform for a very good price, thanks to our links with a reliable, local stockist.

However, their prices have recently risen a little, and so it is necessary for us to reflect that change too.

From the beginning of next term, 23rd February, the prices for uniform we sell at school will be as follows:

Sweatshirt £8.00
Cardigan £9.00
Book bag £4.00
PE Bag £3.50
PE shorts £3.00
PE T-shirt £2.00

Thank you for ensuring that your child attends school in the correct uniform, and has a PE kit at all times.

Yours sincerely

Dear Junior Parents/Carers

We are really excited to be able to announce that the final Paragon Night of this academic year will be held on 17 July at 6.00pm at the Winter Garden in Eastbourne.  This will be a joint event with Key Stage 2 pupils from Oakwood, Heron Park, King Offa and Glenleigh Park academies taking part.  The children will be putting on a performance showcasing the best parts of the Paragon Curriculum that they have been following this year.

•           On 17 July we would like to extend the school day to ensure that the children have enough time to rehearse and prepare.

•           They will be travelling to the Winter Garden by coach for a dress rehearsal and stay for the performance.

•           All children will require a packed lunch (no fizzy drinks please).  If your child is entitled to a free school meal, they will be provided with a packed lunch (but not a tea).

•           Please could you also provide a small snack for them to eat at a pre-show tea before the performance in the evening.

•           All transport for children from their Academy to the Winter Garden will be provided free of charge.

•           Children will need to be collected from the Winter Garden at the end of the performance at 8.30pm.

•           Tickets will be on sale at the school office from Thursday, 26 June priced at £1.50 and will initially be limited to two per family.

•           At the end of June, any spare tickets will go on general sale and you will be welcome to buy more if you require them.

•           The whole event will be professionally filmed and a DVD of the event will be available to purchase shortly after the show.  Copies of the DVD can be pre-ordered from the school office.

We know this will be an amazing opportunity for all our pupils and are confident it will be a night to remember.  If you have any queries, please speak to your child’s teacher or the school office.

Yours sincerely

Dear Parents and Carers,

Crossing patrol at the Hydneye entrance to school

East Sussex County Council has withdrawn funding for the Crossing Patrol for this school on the Hydneye with effect from September 2014.

We feel very strongly that this is a service which we rely on to ensure the safety and security of pupils at this school, and are hoping to persuade them to reconsider their decision.

Please add as many names as possible to the petition overleaf and return it to schoolNO LATER THAN TUESDAY 17th JUNE – a council meeting is taking place soon and your views on this matter might just make all the difference! If you would like to send a letter to ESCC about this situation, we have some prepared at school for you to sign, and we can send any letters on from school on your behalf.

I hope you feel able to make your feelings known about this important matter.

Yours sincerely
